Getting Started

My process is designed to save clients time and money. It also keeps you "in the loop" every step of the way!

While actual processes vary by project type, the generalized plan here can give you an idea of what to expect after you call for your free, no obligation consultation.

Consultation Phase
  • I listen to client needs and discuss possible options in general terms.

  • I showcase prior work (my portfolio).

  • We discuss the process and client timeline.

Follow-up Phase
  • I provide a specific, objective-oriented written proposal and cost estimate.

  • If the proposal is accepted, a contract is signed.

Planning Phase
  • Timeline and proposal "tweaks" are made to the satisfactions of both parties.

Content Phase
  • Content (typically text content, existing logos and other client-supplied materials) are received or created.

  • For writing assignments, a content summary is provided for approval and we move to the draft or development phase.

Concept Phase
  • I create initial design concepts. Depending upon the project, two to three concept drafts are presented.

  • Client chooses preferred design and provides details for customization. Customer also signs off on design decision.

Draft Phase
  • I implement client tweaks and return to client with a revised draft.

  • Up to three drafts are common and covered in the contract. With each, the client should provide specific feedback for changes.

  • Final text content is edited and proofed.

  • Once design customizations meet client specifications, a customer sign-off signals the beginning of the next phase.

Development Phase
  • Final text is approved by the client.

  • I ready the design for publication (ie, online or print).

  • Final design (with completed text content) is presented to the client for approval.

Implementation Phase
  • Design (with completed text content) is produced.

  • Client may be asked sign-off on a press proof (for print projects) or a pre-launch viewing (for Web projects).
