Writing / Copywriting
Content that Connects …
Our messages need to connect quickly with their intended audiences. That's my first copywriting rule.
I believe this so strongly that, when writing for a professional communications blog, I once quipped that we can't ask, “What would Shakespeare do?” Today the reality is quick communication. We need to deliver messages rapidly. Directly.
If we don't grab the reader within a matter of seconds, no amount of clever graphics wil regain their attention. This is true for brochures, direct mail pieces and especially for Web sites! After all, we live in a
society where our time and attention is pulled in a thousand different directions every day.
Which brings me to my second rule of thumb: copy must be relevant.
Because your target audience's time is precious — and because, as for all of us, distractions are the norm — it takes content that's pertinant to the audience and their concerns to hold their focus.
